about bfc.

Boards for Change is a Sacramento based community beautification initiative.  The creators of boards for change, Lina Washington, Shannan O'Rourke and Kimberly Prince, came together in a time of hardship to create this platform of resistance through art as a direct result of the recent George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter movement.  Local Sacramento artists were paired with local Sacramento businesses to create messages of solidarity , power, and strength on boarded up storefronts.  The pieces of art will be auctioned off in the future with proceeds benefiting Black youth organizations in the greater Sacramento area.

Lina Washington is a two-time Emmy award winning sports reporter/anchor who moved to Sacramento in July 2017 to begin working for ABC10. Although she was born and raised in Phoenix, she is no stranger to the Central Valley. After spending nearly four years covering sports at KGET in Bakersfield, Lina is a proud Arizona State Sun Devil.  She received her Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In her seven years as a sports reporter, Lina has covered everything from the NCAA basketball tournament in Oklahoma City to the Super Bowl in Miami. When she's not watching sports, she enjoys dancing, hiking, boxing, traveling, and spending time with her cat, Coogler.

Kimberly Prince, owner of Nekter Juice Bar Sacramento, was born and raised here in Sacramento, CA. Being a Sacramento native, Kimberly left her hometown in college to experience new surroundings and redefine herself in a new city.  Seven years later, she found herself back in Sacramento and completely embracing SacTown. Since then, Kimberly has been a local business owner/young entrepreneur for three years (and counting) and recently opened her second Nekter location in Crocker Village (Curtis Park). In addition to her girl-bossness, she is also a “Wish Connector” with the Make a Wish Foundation. Go visit Kimberly and her rad crew at either Nekter location to grab one of her amazing juices or bowls!
